How Pitch can say there wasnt much talent in the U18 squad from last year I dont know. A good amount of those boys represented the county u18 side last year or this year, so surely they did have the ability.

S&C are you a Sheringham fan? lol No - my son played with some of the lads who have gone to norwich united and, have to agree with andrewstrauss, can't see how pitch doesn't rate some of them!

Its time for me to put my two-penneth in [for what its worth] No one tried harder than me to keep the under 18's together and at Wroxham[the lads will confirm that], if they had, they would have walked the league. Unfortunately youngsters are impatient, and had moved on to NU [who must have thought all their Xmas's had come at once] I do agree that the grass isn't always greener but I DON'T AGREE with pitch [who are you], have you ever watched the under 18's in an under 18's game? They were a very young squad last year and totally exhausted at the end of season having played under 18's school/ uni Sunday mornings 1st team[at least 6 of them] and not to mention ressies, which without them they would have gone down for sure as they didn't have enough senior players to field a team!! On the bright side, I can now at last hang my sponge bag up and save a fortune on sweets

Looks like I am getting some flack over the u18s but if all of them stayed who would have told the lads when they turn 18 that they have not made the grade for senior football.

The same bloke who will tell the new ressies you numpty , our lads that won the sterry cup two years prior finished one place higher then last years youthfull reserve squad in the ang comb .If the club does not invest in the youth it will struggle if their money dries up , we all understand that the lads have alot to do to become first team players, and that they need a certain amount of experience around them . That all said i am sure the new set up will do well this season and must finally travel to wembley in the vase final , i guess you won,t be playing pitch.

Many already had played for the 1st team Pitch so i doubt many would have to be told they havent made the grade.

sorry, pitch, really don't get your argument - better not to have an u18 side in that case, so that no-one will be disappointed at the end of their two year stint!

An official statement from Wroxham FC
Comment has been made that the club did not make enough effort to retain last season’s -18 squad.
We are most disappointed that the players have left the club and these accusations are very wide of the mark and do not reflect what happened given the difficult situation the club found itself in. when Andy Baker and Matt Carpenter both decided to leave for different reasons. We had expected Andy & Matt would play a significant part in club management this season as they had accepted the positions of Joint Reserve Managers with Matt continuing as -18’s manager. We would like to thank Andy and Matt for their efforts on behalf of the club but the timing of their departures made it difficult to select immediate replacements as we had only just appointed a new 1st team Manager in David Batch. Nevertheless these are the events that followed:.
1. Initially, several of the players were asked to attend a club meeting in May to meet the management of the club and to air their views on the future. This was done amid much speculation that players had been told by people not connected with the club that they would not have a future at Wroxham FC. Out of those who were invited, one turned up – Ben Latimer.
2. David Batch asked last seasons Manager of the Youth Team, Matt Carpenter to send any players he thought capable of training with first team squad along during pre-season. The Manager made it clear that whatever team any player played in last season was irrelevant, just where they stood in relation to everyone else NOW.
3 players attended – Ben Latimer, Jake McCabe and Sam Snowling although the latter two came to one training session and decided, for reasons we don’t know as they have not informed us, that they would not return.
3. The one player who has regularly attended training is Ben Latimer. Ben has featured in every single first team friendly thus far, with the exception of Saturdays match at Swaffham where he was unable to play due to injury sustained whilst playing for Norfolk.
4. We cannot comment on why players have decided to seek pastures new, although it is surprising that many decided to do this without meeting or talking to the new management team. We don’t want to involve ourselves in speculation as to why this was!
5. Many of the players who have left would have had an excellent chance to impress and become regulars in senior football, whether with Wroxham First or Reserve team and instead now will not have that opportunity. Whilst it is a shame any player leaves a club, the first team Manager has made it clear that the football club is always bigger than individuals - including him and that will always be the case.
6. Moving forward, we have appointed 2 excellent people who we know have contacts with the cream of the countys players, (as they were managers of Norfolk Under 16’s last season), as well as local professional clubs.
The ‘Success Criteria’ they have been given by the Manager is to find and develop good players that can impress in our reserves and eventually press for first team places. This is only worthwhile if the reserve team is also of a good standard, and the Manager is determined that our reserve team are stronger than they were last year to support the first team squad as many, including all of the senior players at the club, felt that last year it wasn’t close enough.
Player development is above winning trophies for our Youth team, although if they can do both, then that is even better!
7. At the same time, we decided we wanted to keep our reserves in the Anglian Combination Premier Division instead of putting them into the Ridgeons Reserve league. At this stage, the Anglian Combination is a higher standard as recognised by its status and we want our reserves to be as close as they can to the first team.
This topic was discussed in detail at the AGM, along with other information which will not be commented on here. If anyone wishes to discuss at greater length, then the manager plans to have brief forums before most home matches so would encourage you to all get along!
The club must now move on and in David Batch, Karl Fox, John Edridge, Steve Furlong, Steve Eastaugh, Nigel Wilson and Rob Steward, we believe we have the makings of a strong management team who will continue to keep Wroxham at the forefront of local football.
Chris Green Secretary, Wroxham FC

Interesting statement Chris but isnt the truth, it was Andy Baker who persueded them all to go to his new club Norwich United?
(Both he and Matt have also persueded Thorpe Rovers U16's to set up camp at Norwich United as well. Hopefully to get the best players for next year.)
Presumably they had no faith in the new management at Wroxham.
For what its worth, I think they have made a mistake.

Well as I said before it seems a backwards step for them, a youth team football at the same standard of Wroxham, Reserve football at a lower standard than Wroxham and to be honest their first team has only been saved from relegation a couple of times by team movements so its very much a backwards step compared to Wroxham first team.
Wroxham FC will move on with a successful development year for the youth, it will be nice for the reserves to have another stab at the Sterry Cup and exciting times for the first team, something these players will be missing out
