The final pre-season game for the under 18's took place on Monday evening.
The host were slow off the mark, when pressure from Wroxham was strong. Fakenham found themselves struggling to get the ball out of their half. Although saying that, Wroxham were up against a more energetic side than the Hempnall team they played last week and the Wroxham defence were stretched at times, but they were not troubled for much of the first 25 minutes. A few oppertunities fell for the blues as they forced the keeper to get his knees muddy! Efforts from Guild, Church and defender Liam Young all missed narrowly, but 30 minutes, Fakenham keeper pulled off a good save, but was not to be lucky when the ball fell to striker Ryan Guild who was there to tap in it in.
From then on things seemed to change and Fakenham seemed to step up their game. They broke through the Wroxham defence a few times, to be stopped by player/official Adam Wengrow (Myself) who called the offside shot. (For anyone interested, I am a FA trained official) Not to long after, the ball did break through for Fakenham who defeated the Wroxhams backline to make goalkeeper Luke Plumbstead pull off a good save. Unfortunatly, the same thing occured again on 40mins, but this time, Plumbstead was slow off the mark which enabled the striker to slot the ball past him.
The teams went in level at the interval.
Changes again occured at half-time, seeing linesman Adam Wengrow take up his regular position between the sticks and Goreham, Egleton, Steward and Artheton.
Fakenham seemed to keep up their attacking spirit after the interval and seemed to have Wroxhams offside trap handled well. Wroxham fell lucky on 50 minutes when Wengrow called to claim a cross, but misjudged it and the Fakenham striker headed over. He made up for it though, acting as sweeper to Fakenhams long, overhit balls which relieved the defence of their duties. Fakenham came close again when the ball was struck past Wengrow and looked destined for goal, but Frazer Atherton was there to dive feet first to save the ball from hitting the back of the net!
Wroxham then found foot again and started to press. Kieron Goreham involved in the action but just couldnt seem to hit the target. It took one random attack from Wroxham out of no where for the ball to end up at the feet of Ryan Guild who clevery lifted the ball over the Fakenham keeper and dropped tidily into the net.
From then on it seemed a relaxing game for Wroxham who managed to hold on to their slender lead seeing out the pre-season games with a 100% record.
You can see the Under 18's in action on Thursday 1st of September at Trafford Park, facing newly named side Harford CEYMS who are now affiliated with Anglian Combination side CEYMS, hence the name.
We hope to see you all at some point during the season! Match reports may be up by myself, but I am a very busy lad, so I apologise if every game is not posted! Also I hope that in some cases this season, you wont think im big headed if I talk about certain situations that involve myself. I try and make all match reports come from an outsiders view as much as I can!
Enjoy the season!
UP THE YACHTSMEN!
