Ha Ha Blue Physio, I'll gladly buy the first round before the game to improve your hearing and you can earwig on the ref/player conversations during the game. With reference to my point on referees being introduced to football to stop disputes between teams, take a look at the latest video from the FA on the Respect campaign. Its quite toungue-in-cheek and there's quite a few familiar faces but the underlying message is clear. You can see it currently on the Norfolk Woman & Girls Football League website at www.norfolkwgfl.co.uk. or catch it on YouTube

There are some very interesting posts about referees on this site but I feel the main culprits are doing what they usually do, hiding in the background. In years gone by cautions were few and far between. If a player was booked it was to remind him of the laws of the game and to warn him to behave. Unfortunately I do not believe that to be the case now. Ask yourselves, why are there now so many red and yellow cards? Is it because players are really that more unruly? Why are referees leaving the game? Is it because they get that much abuse? How about, to start with, possible answers. The County FA know that for every booking they get £8 and for every sending off is it a minimum of £15.00? Assessors are more and more frequent these days. For what purpose? To instruct the referee on how to be better or to make sure he shows as many red and yellow cards as he 'should do'? The assessors, instructed by, and paid for, the county FA are both to blame. Whether referees accept it or not most players, spectators and management teams know that there is a far better chance of getting players booked if an assessor is known to be at the game than if he is not. How much does the county get in for fines each season nowadays. Who knows as they have, I believe, stopped publicising it. Last I knew it was over £100,000 per season, and that was about ten years ago. That money, paid for by players and clubs, goes to the officials of the county, their expenses and their end of season buffets. Second answer, why are referees leaving the game. Could not the possible answer be that too many of them are put under so much pressure by the assessors and the County FA that they lose the love for the game that they all had when they started refereeing. Because of that pressure they caution players, for the reasons above, and then receive even more critics and abuse. It is a thankless task in many cases but if they were allowed to use common sense and not be forced into being a fine allocator then perhaps they would still have the enjoyment for the game and not leave it. The greed and selfishness of the officials of the County FA, whose wages are paid for this way?, coupled with the assessors have a lot to answer for. Look at the sine dies on the county website ..... most are for unpaid fines. Many of the players involved are quite young and simply put have been priced out of the game. There are many other aspects of this arguement still to be written ........ but surely this is enough for now!

having watched Wroxham as a neutral I've always felt the refs have allowed Wroxham to get away with too much dissent and niggly fouls and lots of stuf for far too long and almost let the players ref the game themselves. Its about time they began to knock them down a peg or two and clamp down on them
