Hi guys...
Thought I would post some information about your next opponents and where to eat and drink on your visit to Royston.
ROYSTON:
Is a small market town situated on the A505 between Cambridge and London. It's famous for the hunting lodge of King James, in which he hid during the English Civil war. There is also a cave (worth a visit) situated on Baldock Road. For those more interested in the local beverages, Royston has a wealth of pubs for a small town. The best are situated in the centre of town.
EATING AND DRINKING:
The Boars Head(Commonly known as the Whores bed by locals): Excellent food, average priced ale (local and draught): Ben, the Land Lord is a top bloke who will make you very welcome.
The Green Man: Lively pub, music, tv and good beer
The Bull: Old fashioned hotel old fashioned attitudes
The Chequers: Modernesque decor, you get what you pay for.
Barracuda (The Old Post Office): Wetherspoons style pub with the music. Food ok.
Banyers Hotel: Owned by the Chairman of Histon FC. Not bad, food expensive compared to the others, but it is a hotel.
THE CLUB:
After several seasons of dross, Royston were promoted from the SSML Division 1 last year as run away champions, losing only once in the league all year. This under the expert tuteledge of current Manager Paul Attfield. A well run club with expectations to move up the league ala Histon!!
Last time out Royston won 3-2 against Harefield United care of 2 David Cain goals. Royston maybe in 10th plce at the moment, but we have 7 games to spare which could take us back to the summit.
DIRECTIONS:
Well I would imagine you guy will be haring down the A11... When the road bears off just after the BP services on the A11, move into the left hand lane and take it. Follow this road (Signposted LONDON M11) for 8 miles nd then drift into the left hand lane for the A505 signposted Royston. Keep on this road for 10 miles, going over 2 round-abouts. (First one McDonalds, second one Duxford Museum). You will past a Murco garage on the left hand sign and will eventually reach a r-a-b for the A10. Take the first exit (left) onto the A10 (Melbourn road). Follow the road for approx 1.5 miles. Landmarks include an undertakers on the right and then a set of trffic lights. Just after these take the turning on your left. This is GARDEN WALK. The ground is about 150 metres on your left.
Hope you enjoy the game on saturday and a safe trip.
Jez
