Another very good away win for our reserves last Sat. This time it was a 2-0 at a very hard working Spixworth Fc. As per usual we arrived at the ground to find that managers York & Harty have had to reshuffle the team due to players being unavailable. We lost Ben Jones, Luke Thacker, Graham Challen , Sam Harty and Adam Wengrow from our last starting eleven but gained some very able replacements in Ben Church and Liam Still. This added to a full start for the impressive Olly Dingli and another reserve outing for the vastly experienced and always dependable Gavin Pauling who is still recuperating from a knee complaint. Sam Holt came onto the bench.
As per usual managers York and Harty had all their match tactics worked out and pre match instructed the lads very clearely on how they could win this game against a very experienced Spixworth side which contained many former Wroxham player’s as seems to be the norm these days.
The game itself was fairly open and although we played much the better football it would be fair to say Spixworth had 2 or 3 good chances to score and for once lady luck did seem to be on our side in this game as they hit the crossbar on 3 occasions. But these things do even themselves out over a season and I can remember loads of occasions when we certainly have not had any luck in games what so ever so I think we were due some. Our goals came from a great follow up finish from Olly Dingli after a great run from Danny Boswell after he surged into the Spixworth box and a cool finish from Jordan Southgate late in the game after a melee in their box.
Great all round team performance again with Olly Savage once again looking impressive at left back with his energy and positional sense. Danny Boswell was immense in the centre of the park with his constant running and robust tackling. Also impressing were youngsters Ben Church and Rio Starkings at the back and certainly belie their tender ages. But the two who really stood out for us today, in my opinion, were Jordan Mace and the ever green Gavin Pauling. Jordan managed to keep the ball well up front today and showed some terrific foot work at times aswell. And it is clear that he is getting fitter and fitter as the games go on so hopefully his form will get just get more and more impressive as the season goes on. As for the war horse that is Gavin Pauling what can you say . I’m sure Gavin wont mind me saying that he is now well into his mid thirties but his commitment and footballing prowess remain sublime. He certainly in no way plays like an old player and if anything always gives a footballing lesson to the lads playing along side him and he most certainly gives the opposition players a defending lesson as most of the opponents strikers hardly get a sight of goal when Gav is in the back four !!.
So great result and now on to Holt in the cup. Lets hope we can have a bit of a run in this competition as we always seem to exit a little bit too early for most peoples liking and it would be nice to have a final at the end of the season as reward not only for the lads but for Lawro and Dave too. We will see !!
